Butong from Kinuskusan

These are bamboo poles we bought from Kinuskusan, two-and-a-half hour south of Davao City. It's Dendrocalamus Latiflorus, I think, the locals call it Butong. Poles are relatively straight or smoothly curved, that was the main concern why I decided to get this poles despite that the locals favor tungkan (Bambusa blumeana) for construction.

The culm wall thickness at the bottom is around 2 centimeters.

Nice curve for arch component!

Thickness goes down to 1.5-1 cm 8-9 meter from the bottom.

We'll see what happen to these cuts left untreated.
